This review is from: Yamaha DGX230 76 Full-Sized Piano Style Keys, 489 Instrument VoicesI now own two these. One I leave at my band's practice site, the other I keep at home and then take with me for performances. At $200 there's no sense hauling the practice instrument back and forth. Of course, it's not a professional keyboard and will rate sneers from real keyboardists. But for my purposes providing chording and some embellishments for a couple of local bands, it works just fine . . . especially great sound for the "rock organ" setting . . . and I also use the violin voice for country songs and the various saxophone voices on occasion. I have no idea about the other features of the keyboard as a learning device . . . but for an inexpensive, good-sounding, sturdy and dependable keyboard, it's great....
This review is from: Yamaha DGX230 76 Full-Sized Piano Style Keys, 489 Instrument VoicesI have no problem with the keyboard itself. I have a big problem with the product marketing and out of box experience. What is the difference between this model and the YPG-235? I spent 60 minutes on the internet including Yamaha's terrible website and still have no idea. It feels like the YPG DBX line are about the same, and the have THE EXACT SAME MANUAL. Is one or the other the newer model? Are they both still supported? This one costs a little more, what am I getting for the money? This model comes without an AC adapter. WTF? Is there really someone out there that wants to run this solely off battery power? I unboxed this with my son and we had to just stand there and look at it for 2 days while I waited for an adapter in the mail (not to mention paying an extra $20 for a $1 item). Here's a hint Yamaha, Apple would never ship a product that didn't work out of the box. WWSJD? Include an AC adapter.Lastly - I also bought the stand separately. Apart from having no assembly directions it doesn't at all hook in to this keyboard. The keyboard just sits on two tube pipes. Would it be too hard to design an integrated stand? This just feels cheap....
This review is from: Yamaha DGX230 76 Full-Sized Piano Style Keys, 489 Instrument VoicesWe setup my daughter's new Yamaha keyboard, and the inlaws joined in making music. Playing with various sounds, I heard my nephew playing guitar while she played honky tonk piano. Next she was using classical grand piano mode, and they were rockin' out. Lots of fun, worked right out of the box, the speakers are big and sound good. We're having fun with this cool keyboard.Lots of complex options, plus the USB connection to a computer we need to learn. But it's great right out of the box. Get the stand and footpedal, and of course a power supply. Yea, it's more money, but to get Yamaha quality that's the price you pay. Still a good value at these prices......
